David Armstrong

Meet David Armstrong

Railroads and records tell you a lot about David Armstrong.

David Armstrong is a 40-year veteran of the insurance industry. He is unique because his industry specific focus his entire career has been exclusively on railroads and railroad related engineers, contractors and suppliers.

He has provided comprehensive and financially responsive insurance and bonding placements for large transit systems, regional and shortline railroads and railroad contractors throughout the U.S.  He joined C.I.A. as a principal in 2005 after 24 years with Willis.

Armstrong holds a B.B.A. degree from the University of Memphis (formerly Memphis State). David is a member of the National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association, where he has served on the Board of Directors for over 20 years.

In 1998, he founded Railworks – a combination roll-up public offering, which today is a billion-dollar revenue company.

In 2007, he founded AXIS Track Report, a web-based rail industry bid advertisement service, with his son Hunter.

His father, Jack Armstrong, studied opera, so David grew up with a passion for music and has an impressive collection of 1970s and 1980s vinyl albums.

David has been active with Habitat for Humanity and was a Boy Scout leader for over 12 years.  One son persevered and achieved the rank of Eagle.

David’s father was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and David served four years in the Marines during Vietnam.

David has two sons, two step daughters (and five grandchildren) with his first wife, whom he lost to cancer. Today, he and his wife, Marsha, enjoy watching SEC football and the Tennessee Titans, and also spending time with Marsha’s daughter and husband.
